| "The Great Gator Wall" (2007) collaboration with the children attending the summer recreation program at Gansevoort Elementary School. This project was sponsored by RCSD Safe Schools/Healthy Students, Rome Weed & Seed, and Turner Glass Art. The mosaic mural features Gansevoort’s mascot – the Gator! The mosaic was created using small ceramic tiles, hand made by the children. It also includes small trinkets and found objects brought in by the children. The mural was unveiled at a special school assembly held on September 14. ~~~ Thanks go out to Cindy Gursky for her drawing, Mrs. Miller for her support, Nicole and Daniel from the Youth Employment Program, the staff of Rome City Rec Dept at Stevens Field, the Bldgs/Maintenance Staff at Gansevoort, Mary Constabile, my daughters Jackie and Alycia, and Kathy Stockbridge of Rome Weed & Seed. Extra special thanks to Peggy Palaka for her assistance - could not have done it without her! ....and the kids of the Liberty Garden's Garden Club of course! Project Details Dimensions - 32 sq feet Materials used - The design was made with over 750 handmade tiles made of earthenware clay and then glazed and fired; stained glass and mirror pieces; glass tiles and found objects. After gluing the materials onto a plywood board it was grouted in white sanded grout, and then an acrylic paint wash was applied in several colors.
